The first edition of the novel was published in August 18th 2004, and was written by Bryan Lee O'Malley. His first original graphic novel was Lost at Sea (2003), and he is best-known for the six-volume Scott Pilgrim series (2004 to 2010). Having to battle his new girlfriend's evil exes was nothing he planned on, but love makes you do funny things. For me, I bring two contexts to this review: (1) I broke my rule of always reading the book before watching the film adaptation (Scott Pilgrim vs the World was one of my favorite movies of 2010); and (2) I was (am?) I loved the movie for its distinctive characters and imaginative visuals; however I found the character of Scott Pilgrim extremely insufferable. Scott's comfortable life mooching off his friends and roommate is thrown into chaos when American ninja delivery girl Ramona V. Flowers moves into town and starts using his dreams as a shortcut to other places. So with that in mind I had to put my hands up to it and go see what was so great and man was it fantastic. This book is hilarious. Follow his story in the complete Scott Pilgrim saga in this Scott Pilgrim set. On one hand, the books go into greater detail in the lives and thoughts of all of the characters (especially Ramona, who was fairly limited and one-dimensional in the movie, but who is much richer as a character in the books). Entitled, whiny, self-centered - I couldn't imagine following Scott through six volumes of his life.Note: I had earlier posted a review in the Goodreads listing for Vol. This entire series is about 1000 pages long but I power housed through it in about a week and loved every minute of it.
