Visitors can enjoy a picnic, a shady stroll along the Solstice Canyon Trail, or a more challenging climb up the Rising Sun Trail. There are A LOT of people headed this way right now - when you’re on the main trail it’s a bit more populated than I’d like - however, this trail has moments of taking you off the beaten path, uphill and across shallow streams, that are really rewarding! Great hike with really cool landmarks but i have to say parking is a nightmare and this is the most confused I’ve seen Alltrails’s navigation it was trying to take me to trails and ways that didn’t even exist! Solstice is a trail of its own leading to the ruins and waterfall. There is more shade than others have posted. Trail to the waterfall is near the tropical terrace and a little hidden. One of my favorite trails in LA. You can carefully scramble up the rocks on an extremely steep trail to get above the waterfall to a number of lovely pools. Completed this with a toddler no problem. Solstice Canyon is an easy 2-mile hike in the hills of Malibu that takes you to a small waterfall and a collection of ruins. Great shady area on one side and the other side has great views or vice versa depends on where you start. I loved the history behind the parkThis is a good family hike and it’s dog friendly.
Unreliable cell service in the backcountry.From Pacific Coast Hwy turn inland on Corral Canyon Rd. The trail on the hill was steeper than we planned for but it was a beautiful view!Lovely hike, great workout if you do the full distance. I did the Solstice Canyon loop - the Solstice trail was shadier and more interesting than the Rising Sun trail, but Rising Sun adds a nice workout. Solstice Canyon features several options for easy, moderate, or strenuous hikes through coastal sage scrub and riparian plant communities. I go early in the morning and you can hear the water from the stream & the owls hooting. You must connect to other trails in order to loop and see the ocean view. The big attraction on this 2.6-mile round trip hike is a small waterfall next to interesting ruins. If it's hot and sunny out, you may not want to attempt those routes. the waterfall & pools above it are BEAUTIFUL, the ruins a little disappointing but still cool. The second half of the hike up the canyon and down is grueling but well worth the views of the Pacific Ocean. Please pick up after your dog. Solstice Canyon Loop is a 3.2 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Malibu, California that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. You gotta take the same trail down. This trail ascends above the canyon on the west side, passing a few more ruined buildings along the way.The Solstice Canyon Trail is a partly paved, partly dirt path down the center of Solstice Canyon. This is really a fun place to explore! On this loop, get the elevation gain out of the way right in the beginning - look for a trailhead on the north side of the lot for a set of stairs leading to the Rising Sun Trail. Dogs are allowed but must remain on a leash, not to exceed six feet, at all times. I believe that was the end of the trail.
Not a lot of shade throughout the trail. Very cool ruins and the sound of running water is nice. Some shade, though we went early in the morning. Bear right at the dirt road that takes you up to the 2 odd looking buildings that house the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. With limited parking, carpooling is strongly encouraged. Water. There's also some parking at the Rising Sun trailhead, but not sure if it's available to the public. If you choose to park outside the lot and along Corral Canyon Road, please make sure car is completely on the outside of the road striping. Main parking lot does get packed so be prepared to wait around between 10-30min depending how many cars are in front of you unless you get very lucky as we did. In order to do loop trail do the 2nd recommendation ways. Started to get crowded around 10am when we went in a Sunday.Pretty great trail, the ruins were fun to look at and the waterfall was small but really cute. About a quarter mile up, you will see the gated entrance to Solstice Canyon.It’s like a hard walk in the park. the whole hike has pretty views although outside of the waterfall shaded area it is pretty dry this time of year. Good short trail near a beautiful part of the country...Malibu Beach.I’d call this Easy not Moderate. hiked it two weeks ago. Parking at the trailhead is free, but limited. Dog friendly reminder to dog owners. You need sun screen.
